If it is just rain, you stay on your tower and guard the swimmers. If there is thunder & lightning, you clear the pool and wait 20 minutes from the last display of thunder & lightning before letting the swimmers back in the water. It is best if the swimmers are not standing on a wet pool deck while waiting for the all-clear to re-enter the pool.
National Pool lifeguarding Qualification
Lifeguards work at beaches, public pools, private pools, Y.W.C.A.'s and Y.M.C.A.'s, resorts, and sometimes at rural "swimming holes" and creeks. Many people get a start in lifeguarding when they are in high schools. Pool owners will teach basic lifeguarding skills and water rescue, and will certify you during your employment at that pool. Your work history and experience will allow you to change jobs to a different pool/owner at some point if you want.
