There are a number of products available at feed & grain outlets for this purpose. Many small farms just feed a high corn diet to put extra fat and therefore weight on the birds. High corn diets also add flavor to the flesh. Birds fed corn will have a distinctive yellow tinge to the skin. This is often done 10 days before slaughter.

A diet high in corn is usual for several weeks before slaughter. The day before slaughter, most farmers feed them nothing but allow access to water.
