The refrigerant
The dye travels with the refrigerant and oil through the system.
The refrigerant itself does.
I mixes with the oil and is carried by the refrigerant.
The dye is carried along with the lubricating oil as it moves through system.
Generally mechanics will check with a dye kit and an ultraviolet light. The ultraviolet light will pinpoint the exact location of the leak.
Usually the leak is where the rear line set goes over the rear axle. Those vehicles had dye in the system that shows green under ultraviolet light. Usually it's in the larger line.
The two basic ways are: 1. charge the system with refrigerant containing a tracer dye, then use an ultraviolet lamp to find the dye at the leak point. 2. use an electronic leak detector, commonly called a 'sniffer' to find the leak. Pressures in an air conditioner can be dangerous. Working on the system requires specialized knowledge. Get some help from an experienced refrigeration tech.
A leak most likely, your mechanic can run a dye through the A/C system to find any leaks and patch them.
It can be done through a thin needle pushed straight into the liver or through a scope passed through the stomach that can inject dye into the Ampulla of Vater. CT and MRI scans are very useful
Drop a drop of food dye in a glass of water and watch. The dye diffuses through out the water, weakening the dye and coloring the water.
A man runs through the market with a rope that was dyed, and if you got dye on you, you were part of the government for that day. Later they adapted democracy as a government system.
