Irans last government was an Islamic republic.
The unique thing is that the Iranian regime in Iran is a democracy based on Islamic law.
There is no king of Iran. There is the spiritual leader, called the Ayatollah. Since Iran is a theocracy they follow a religion, as their government. The current Ayatollah of Iran is Ali Khamenei.
In 1850, Persia (as it was called at the time) had an ABSOLUTE MONARCHY ruled by the Qajjar Dynasty. In the 1890s, the Qajjars were forced to adopt a constitutional reform.
Iran has a history of more than 2500 years of kingdom and from 1979 after Islamic revolution, it changed to Islamic Republic.
