Historians report he was the son of a wool comber and was suppose to be in the same trade, but at 14 he went to sea. As early as 1474 he thought of sailing west to get to India. Today, there some historians who believe that he was actually from a wealthy Spanish family who were political rivals of the king and queen. They think this because he wrote in Spanish, was married to a wealthy Spanish woman ( a poor man wouldn't have been able to make this match/marriage), and that he was educated. Very few were educated in his time unless they were wealthy. He may have taken the persona of "Columbus" so he could gain favor from the king and queen for his idea/adventure to find India with a sea route. (This actually makes sense to me when you add up the facts we know about him.)

Christopher Columbus is credited with discovering the Americas in 1492, opening up a new era of exploration and colonization in the New World. He played a key role in connecting Europe with the Americas, leading to the eventual exchange of goods, ideas, and cultures between the two continents. However, it's important to note that his arrival also led to the exploitation and suffering of indigenous populations in the Americas.
