I imagine pioneers had an interesting, busy life if they had the constitution to completely change their life style after arriving in a different country. Depending on their circumstances before they immigrated, they might have had to do physical labour in comparison to their employment (or lack of) in their home country. Most of the farming pioneers were poor, so their clothes were usually home made, the food would be grown on the property cleared after the sod hut/home was built, animals were kept for their usefulness or as food, neighbours lived far away but were depended on for assistance and company & all family members were expected to work to support life in a new country. Pioneers were very brave to face so many unknowns far from their familes and friends.
