Men's fashions were mostly rather preppy, but there were some wonderful shirts, Hawaiian and novelty printed.
I'll add that many men wore suits and ties for work and church. Jacket were still pretty similar to the 40s silhouette but lapels slightly less exaggerated, shoulders a little less padded and waist a little more relaxed. Ties were still fairly wide but began to narrow in the late 1950s.
Cords very in and are still considered as classic fashion. Corduroy was worn as a suiting pair with coat and shirt and also as a casual fashion with shirt and suspenders at that era. Corduroy pants are still very classy and boys fashion is still dependent on it for a good durable pair or trousers.
