It caused some multiplications to return erroneous results. The multiplications included 77.1*850, 5.1*12850, and 10.2*6425. They should return results of either 65,535 or 65,536 but in Excel 2007 they returned a result of 100,000 instead.
In Excel, you use the asterisk, "*". As to the name, I would just call it the "multiplication sign".
It is used as the symbol for multiplication.
There are many signs used in Excel. Three of them are the plus sign (+), the minus sign (-) and the multiplication sign (*).
Excel, being spreadsheet, follows the laws of mathematics. One of those laws is that multiplication comes before addition. It is part of the order of precedence of operations. See the related question below.
It cannot be used in a filename. It can be used in formulas as it stands for multiplication: =A10*5
In Java, the multiplication operator is represented by the asterisk, "*". This was not invented by Java; most programming languages, as well as programs such as Excel, use the same symbol.
Excel does not use format symbols. If this question is asking about arithmetic operators, the symbols are:Addition (+)Subtraction (-)Multiplication (*)Division (/)Exponent (^)
The plus sign does adding and the minus sign does subtraction in Excel: =A10+B2 =A2-50 The * is used for multiplication. The / is used for division: =A2*A3 =A6/40
In Java, the multiplication operator is represented by the asterisk, "*". This was not invented by Java; most programming languages, as well as programs such as Excel, use the same symbol.
This question is not clear. If you exchange a multiplication and addition operator, you most likely would get a different result.
Bug
you can't write a multiplication mark on a keyboard but you can write a division one. first hold ALT and type 246 (÷) :) The letter 'x'. If using a program like Excel, use *.
