The economy in the USA was just starting to recover from the Great Depression when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The economy really recovered when everyone was employed either in the military, in a war plant or in the general businesses. Many married couples were able to save money to buy houses and cars after the war. Some married couples suffered from the same problem we have today. They lost a lot of income going from a civilian job to a military job. Some managed to make up for the loss by having the wife go to work in a war plant job.

After the war the depression was history. The economy boomed until the recession due to Vietnam War.
