It was called the Battle of Britain. The German Luftwaffe was bombing the British main land to soften it up for an invasion. The British however fought back and if it wasn't for this the Allies may have not won the war. The invasion of Britain never came and the British and Allies go to win the war.
The Douglas XB-19 was the largest bomber aircraft built for the United States Army Air Corps until 1946. It had a wingspan of 212 Ft- 0 In and a length of 132 Ft- 2 in. It was experimental and only 1 was built. Compare this to the B-36 jet bomber, built years later, that had a wingspan of 230 Ft- 0 In and Length 162 Ft- 1 in.
