The people in the American Southwest who are called Anasazi or Ancestral Pueblo People and some times built under overhanging sandstone clifs lived in the high Colorado Plateau area. This ranges in elevation from about 5000 to 8000 feet so there is a range of weather conditions and it has changed over time. In general it is a of high between 80-95 in the summer and low at about 50-60. In the winter Lows are in the teens and highs in the 40s. There is snow in the winter and thunderstorms with rain in the later sumer, locally called monsoons. The toatl rain depends a lot of the elevation. There is obviously not as much snow at the lower end. It is very dry so often snow does not melt but it evaporates. In lowere area annual precipitation is about 7-11 inches and 173 day growing season. At hgiher areas it is 16-27 inches and growing season is 95 days. Some of the areas is steppe, some desert and some cold humid.
