well, when the dodo's used to thrive in the island of mauritius in the Indian ocean the climate was a tropical as well as subtropical one that is why the dodo used to experience wet and dry seasons.climatical changes made it adapt to different situations of availability of food.It used to eat a lot of fruits and seeds which were its basic diet and used to grow fat at the end of the wet season so that it could not face any food scarcity at the time of the dry season. This is the reason why some sailors documented that dodos were greedy birds, and had a voracious appetite

Were dodo birds smart?

Dodo birds aren't actually dumb. People think that they are dumb because they didn't realise that dodo birds knew that they were being killed, but by being a dodo bird, they couldn't escape. Dodo birds are naturally fat, which slows down their running, and dodo birds can't fly. Their predators would always kill them.

What type of animal was a dodo?

Dodo birds are extinct due to the actions of humans...so, if you see animal now it was alive in the time of the Dodo bird. General consensus is that the last animal died in the late 17th earily-18th century. It was indigenous to Mauritius Island had no fear of humans and couldn't fly so was easily caught. The fact that humans brought dogs, cats, pigs et cetera (that ate eggs, chicks and birds) and destroyed much of their habitat along with consumption of the birds by people led to the extinction of the both the Dodo and the Red Rail (another flightless bird).
