While the French forces continued to fight and prevailed in several battles after Quebec was captured, the British did not relinquish their hold on the fortress. That tenacity carried over to other areas in North America; within four years, most of France's possessions in eastern North America would be ceded to Great Britain.

During the American Revolutionary War, the American victory at Yorktown (Virginia) in 1781 resulted in the end of the war because of the significant British losses in that battle. Losing over 7,000 soldiers after also having their fleet routed, the British reckoned that the war had become too costly; to continue it (let alone pursue final victory in it) was simply not affordable.
Americans have seen it as a victory due to the fact that British forces that had invaded the United States were for the most part defeated allowing the nation to retain its sovereignty.
