In asking this question you are asking about a 1000 years of history so it is hard to pinpoint one event that changed the society. I think one of the major events that happened was the plague. Three- fourths of the world died and this changed the society. People were able to change status and rank because they could take the places of the dead. Another would be the Crusades. The Crusades brought new ideas into Europe and the men returning were different from the men who stayed home. They eventually became the yeoman who was more free of the feudal system and this will change that system. Combined with these things and pressures from other sources things begin to change.
