because puritans believed only in work and prayer. if you weren't working you must be praying or sleeping because almost everything else was a sin. they considered people doing things such as acting or even just watching plays to be sinful and lime should be spent with god.

The Puritans hated everything about Elizabethan England. That's why so many of them came to America. They were perfectly free to worship as they chose in England, but they could not stand the fun everyone else was having, for example at Christmas, which they refused to celebrate. Of course there were no actresses in Shakespeare's England - female parts were usually played by boys - but you may rest assured that the Puritans would have hated them if there had been any.

He was involved with the theatre which was obviously evil for a number of reasons:

It took place in the same part of town where the brothels were.

It depicted all kinds of bad stuff such as drinking, swearing, lewd behaviour, and murder.

It kept people from entertainments the Puritans approved of, like going to church and reading The Bible.
