Political Parties began in England during the Industrial Revolution. As life changed, many of the laws could not apply to the newly industrialized towns. As a result their group got together and discussed their common problems. They generally thought alike and voted alike. They were called Whigs. The people representing the rural areas also thought alike and voted alike. They were called Tories.

Since society had evolved when almost everyone worked in agriculture, the Tories wanted to keep everything as it was. They were strong supporters of the king. The Whigs lived in an industrial world where the old rules designed for farm life did not work. If the king was a hindrance to working out their problems then the nation should have a republic. So the need for new laws to enable industrial communities to thrive created political parties in England.
