Their original manager Allan Williams owned a coffee bar in Liverpool, called the Jacaranda. His resident band was hired away by an agent based in Hamburg. Williams thought he might be able to make money by sending bands there; The Beatles were one of the bands he sent. They built up their musical skills playing 8-12 hours a day in Hamburg's bars, making five trips in all over the next two and a half years.
