Well, marital status means, basically, "are you married or not?"I suppose that martial status would mean "are you in any wars or not?"
Albert Einstein was a citizen of the German Empire when he was born, and later a citizen of Switzerland, Austria, Germany and the United States. He was not a citizen in any country other than these, although others may have granted him honorary status of one form or another.

Einstein was born in Ulm, Würrttemburg, Germany, then moved with his family to Munich, so he was originally a German citizen. His family later moved to Italy due to the elder Einstein's business failure, and Albert moved to Switzerland to continue his education. He renounced his German citizenship at the age of 17, to avoid enlisting in the military, and became a Swiss citizen in 1901. Einstein changed his citizenship status several times during his life. He lived in Germany the second time because he was offered a position as Professor at Humboldt University, in Berlin, and as Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics, where he served until 1932. Einstein immigrated to the United States in 1933 due to Hitler's rise to power and hostilities against the Jewish population. Einstein became a naturalized US Citizen in 1940 while living in New Jersey and teaching at Princeton University. He remained there until his death in 1955.
