This site has the whole story, "Very good reading" (excerpt):Sieglinde, who is passionately devoted to the memory of Berta Hummel, vowed to display Sister Hummel's art in the United States, to which Smith had immigrated in 1963. Tracing the ownership of 280 original Hummels to the Jacques Nauer family in Switzerland, she found that their collection was packed in crates. She convinced the family that a U.S. museum was a better idea. In 1992 Sieglinde was instrumental in founding the not-for-profit Hummel Museum in New Braunfels, Texas, where she is special projects director. The museum has more than 280 pieces of original Hummel art as well as 1,500 figurines.* http://www.americancatholic.org/messenger/Aug1997/feature2.asp
Sister Maria Innocenta Hummel's artistic drawings are the inspiration for the Hummel figurines. There are numerous characters available, including Hummel Angels, Nativity sets, villages & miniatures, ornaments, water globes, and of course, the M.I. Hummel figurines. The largest collection of Hummel figurines is purported to be at the Donald E. Stephens Museum of Hummels in Rosemont, Ill. The 2013 North American M.I. Hummel Club Convention will take place in Las Vegas, NV from September 5-7.
