South western City (probably Tulsa Oaklahoma) 1950's on the 'wrong side of town'.

But it may also be set in the Las Vegas area since at one point they go to a strip and Motorcycle Boy says something about "Sin City" But if it is, it's not exactly accurate on land scape since the book mentions a lake party, and the only near by lake is Lake Mead, which isn't exactly near by. (I live in the Vegas area, so I'm familiar with the area and all) Plus the author mentioned something about Motorcycle Boy looking out at the water, and well, I can't explain that. But I hope this helps.
