The Berlin Crisis- as it was called was a major (engagement) of the Cold war, not strictly speaking a Battle. There were occasional skirmishes, heck I can remember as a real young kid listening to the radio and hearing some American soldiers were injured when a Pillbox exploded. I had no idea what Pillbox ( evidentally a concealed Gun emplacement) meant. that must have been around l96l My Mother thought it might have been some type of mine, which does explode as a matter of course. The infamous Berlin Wall went up in l96l-62 in effect stabilizing the Berlin Crisis. Two popular songs ( rare for cold-war politics) may have come out of the crisis- they were Walking in the Rain, by the Ronettes, and Concerto For Lovers, by the Toys, both seem to deal with war-time or war-like separation angst but are somewhat vague. Nopthing vague about the opening salvo of Walking in the Rain. l05mm battery salvo with long recoil echo!
