Georgia O'Keeffe's father, Francis "Frank" O'Keeffe worked on the family homestead in rural Sun Prairie, Wisconsin as a farm-hand with his brothers until he was old enough to run a farm my himself. He farmed in the Sun Prairie area until 1902. In 1902, the O'Keeffe's moved to Williamsburg, Virginia where Frank owned and operated a grocery and feed store. In 1912, Frank joined his family in Charlottesville, Virginia where he opened a creamery which later failed in 1915. Frank then pursued a job inspecting buildings around the state of Virginia. When he died in 1918, he was working as a carpenter.

Ida "Totto" O'Keeffe was a housewife when the O'Keeffes lived near Sun Prairie and when they moved to Williamsburg. When Ida moved to Charlottesville, VA in 1910, she ran a rooming house for students going to the University of Virginia.

Georgia O'Keeffe's father, Francis Calixtus O'Keeffe died when he fell off of a roof in Petersburg, Virginia on November 5, 1918.

Georgia's mother, Ida (Totto) O'Keeffe, died May 2, 1916 of tuberculosis, at her home in Charlottesville, Virginia.
