There were a lot of horrible things that happened in World War II. There were all the concentration camps, where Nazi soldiers told Jews that they were going on holiday in the trains, when instead they were taken to camps where they were eventually forced to dig their own graves and then shot, or gassed in tiny chambers.

Thousands of people died because they were Jewish, which Hitler didn't like.

There was also the battle of Gallipoli, where many soldiers from the Allied Forces were sent to a beach in Turkey, and discovered that the beach was surrounded by almost vertical cliffs, with thousands of Turk soldiers waiting on top. They couldn't get out, so the Turks pretty much machine gunned them all down. Hardly any soldiers survived that, and it is still remembered today by wearing poppies. We wear poppis because after all the bodies turned into earth, the soil was very fertile, and the first sign of life after all the death were hundreds of red poppies. Hope this helps :)
