D DAY was the day the allies went to recapture france the battle following Dieppe In World War 2 in comparisson to WW1 in a sense dieppe was like the battle of the sommes and dday was like the battle of vimy ridge. Why did dday happen?

The purpose was to end World War II and the Nazi domination of Europe. It happened on June 6th 1944 on the Atlantic coast at Normandy, France. It is also referred to as the Battle of Normandy. The term D-Day itself is actually a generic term used to denote the day a battle, combat attack or operation is initiated. The aim of D-Day was to liberate France, Belgium, and the Netherlands and push the German army back into Germany. There was already heavy fighting on the Eastern Front (Soviets) and in Italy with the German armies that had retreated from North Africa.6th June 1944
