A 'front end' programme like ALL2LAME or Multi frontend. You will need both Flac.exe and LAME.exe ('L'ames 'A' 'M'p3 'E'ncoder) Or you could use foobar2000, and will only need LAME.exe.

How do you open flac files on mac?

Theres quite a few media players for OS-X that support .flac. Mplayer, VLC, Cog al have native .flac support. iTunes can play flac files, with a utility called 'fluke'- http://blowintopieces.com/fluke/ There is also a (dead) project called macamp lite x that has a plugin for .flac support- http://arcticlounge.com/maltx/

Do FLAC files work on an mp3 player or must i convert them?

Don't think Flac files work on an mp3 player. There is a way you can use flac files as mp3 files by converting them to mp3 format. Here are the instructions on how you can convert them to mp3. Firstly you have to make sure you got Winamp on your computer installed along with Flac library support plugin. Also keep the iTunes or any other media player ready on your computer. Find the output section and select it. This should be on the plugin screen. Navigate the null soft dick writer and select it. Click the confirm button on the bottom of the screen. Next, go to the directory and decide where to save the file. Also ensure that it has a .wav extension. Save the files which you created to the folder you have chosen. Close the present window and return to the Winamp App. Next, navigate to the folder in which you saved the music. Holding the shift key, choose all the files in the folder. After selecting all files, open it. press the play button and Winamp will start decoding all the flac files, converting into wav format. Switch Winamp back to output so that it will start playing the files instead of decoding them. Navigate to iTunes and import wav files from winamp. Finally iTunes will convert them to iTunes files. Hope this helps.

Is there a codec for playing flac files in windows media player?

Depends on the version of WMP you are using. With earlier WMP version (9 or les) it was possible to get flac playback. On later versions (10 or above) it should still be possible to play .flac files, but no-one has done it yet.

Will flac files encoded w DTS 5.1 surround play on your home audio equipment?

No. Because Flac and DTS are different file formats. Probably what you have is a DTS files converted to Flac. Flac will play on some audio equipment, but support for flac is still rare. DTS will play on more audio hardware, and tends to be in most of the multichannel DVD amps.

How do you play flac files with iTunes?

Yes, but its very very limited. You need the "Xiph components for QuickTime", but its not really worth doing. Because that will only let you play flac files that are in an 'ogg container' rather than in a 'native flac'. What does that mean in English? Ogg, like some other file formats (mp4 in particular) is a 'container'. You can put other file types into this container (vorbis is easily the most common, to the point where when most people say 'ogg files' they really mean 'vorbis files in an ogg container'). So, if you want flac files to work with iTunes, the file must be 'blah blah.ogg' and not 'blah blah.flac'. You cant just change the filename to get it to work either, and as 99.9% of the flac's I've ever seen are 'native flac' its kind of pointless to even bother.

Can Oppo BDP83 play Flac Files?

No, none of the Oppo DVD or Blu-Ray players can currently play FLAC files. The company states they are looking into including that functionality in the future, however. The day they do is the day I buy one!

If you rip music into windows media audio lossless when you convert it to mp3 would you not be able to fit as many songs on the CD?

If you rip the MP3's to the same bitrate, they final files should be very similar in size, as the bitrate determines the bulk of the filesize for mp3's. Only the tags, that normally make up less than 2% of the final filesize, might be different. Thast if you were comparing a disc of MP3s to a disc of WMAlossless-> MP3s. If you were converting the MP3s and WMA lossless to .wav, or making a proper audio CD by some other method, then the amount of data you can fit should be exactly the same. Though, to be honest, I have no idea why you would rip WMAlossless-> Mp3. It would be a lot easier to just rip to MP3 in one step if they are what you want, and if you wanted both MP3s (for playing on portable players) and lossless (for playing on your computer) then other lossless formats might be a better choice (try Flac). WMA lossless is not a very good format.

What is flac file and which program opens it?

FLAC, stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. It's a Lossless codec, which means that the resulting data from a transcode be exactly/close to same as the original. Many uncommon Portable Media players offer FLAC codec support, however it's rare to use them since Lossless files always tend to be over 100mb. There are Many media players out there that will play .flac files, such as winamp, jetaudio, foobar2000, vlc, kmediaplayer, Xion, and much more.
