In Biology, structure of things is related to function. Xylem serves to transport water from the roots up through the shoots and the rest of the plant. Since water is more important to living things than food is, it makes sense that its structure is a larger diameter. It also explains why xylem cells are located toward the center of a stem- it is a more protected location in case of adverse temperatures, predators or mechanical injury.
Phloem serves to transport food/carbs either up or down, depending on where they are made (source) and where they are needed (sink), and although phloem also transports a certain amount of water, it is just so that the food molecules are solubilized.
They are both types of vascular tissue in plants, but phloem
moves food down the plant from the leaves to the roots, whereas xylem moves water from the roots up to the rest of the plant tissue.
The difference between xylem and phloem is functional as well as structural.
1. xylem is used for conduction of water and minerals whereas phloem is used for conduction of prepared organic food material.
2. Xylem consists of trachieds, vessels (only in angiosperms) and xylem parenchyma,
whereas phloem consists of sieve tubes, companion cells (only in angiosperms) and phloem parenchyma.
Yes, the Xylem tubes in a plant are slightly larger.
xylem cells are larger and more distinct than phloem cells
Phloem goes to human which is used in transporting food while xylem goes to plant which is used in transporting water and minerals through photosynthesis
no, xylem tubes are bigger in diameter.
QUACK!
There is structural difference between xylem and phloem. This is because their function is also different. Had there been no difference in structure, how these could have performed different function?
The xylem and phloem tube is called the Vascular Bundle.
Phloem
Plant tissue concerned mainly with conduction, the specialized tissue of higher plants consisting essentially of phloem and xylem.
xylem and phloem
the cells of phloem are the only ones with cytoplasm
i think it is vascular cambium layer............ :)
Phloem and xylem are the two main types of vascular tissue found in plants. Xylem is the tissue that mainly carries water, and a few minerals, in the system. Phloem is the tissue that carries photosynthetic materials through the plant.
The vascular cambium tissue makes xylem and phloem.
The dark center of a stem or root that is dead
Xylem and phloem, they are two types of vascular tissue.

False, Phloem tissue does
The xylem and phloem tube is called the Vascular Bundle.
Yes, phloem is living tissue, xylem tends to be woody and dead.
Plant tissue/ conducting tissue
I believe it is the vascular cambium layer, not %100
