In order to escape from humiliation and persecution and from a plot to assassinate him, the Prophet Mohammed had to migrate to Medina which is called The Hijra which happened on 26 Safar AH 1(13 June 622).
He fled from Makkah and had to hide in a cave where he was saved by Allah's Blessings as a spider made a web and a dove which made a nest on the opening of the cave which prevented the soldiers to search the cave.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) entered Yethrib (that called later AlMadina in Arabic or Medina in English) in year 632 AD. The entering day is marking the 1st day in the Islamic Lunar Calender (or Hijra Calendar)
