Union General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick graduated from West Point in 1861. Among the 45 cadets in his graduating class of forty-one, Kilpatrick was ranked seventeenth. He saw most of his battle action under General Sherman in the West. He was in the Battle for Atlanta. and on the March to the Sea.
