Prince Shotoku came into power in 593 A.D. when Empress Suiko ascended the throne. He was her regent but as the ruler of Japan until his death in 622! He married Empress Suiko's daughter, Princess Udodonokaidako. I got this information from the New World Encyclopedia. The Website is: www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Prince_Shotoku. I hope that helped!
