The wreck was located on September 1, 1985 by a joint American-French expedition led by Jean-Louis Michel and Dr. Robert Ballard of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. It was found at a depth of 3,800 meters, at 41°43'55"N 49°56'45"W, near Newfoundland. The ship was found to have broken in two large pieces, which lie on the bottom of the ocean a few hundred meters apart, separated by a debris field.

She was discovered in September 1985 by a research team led by Dr.Robert Ballard from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Maine- the first sighting of her wreck was of one of her boilers. Subsequent research by deep-sea sonar revealed that she had broken in two and that her stern section (which lies about 1,650 ft away from the bow) was devastated almost beyond recognition. Ballard used the deep-ocean submersible 'Alvin', built in 1964, to make several dives on the vessel and take hundreds of photographs. Two years later, a series of unauthorised missions to the wreck by a joint French and American team retrieved hundreds of items from the wreck, including victim's personal effects, the telemotor from the ship's wheel, and the megaphone probably used by Captain Smith, as well as a safe which was opened live on US television in a show hosted by Telly Savalas but found to be empty. Following these unauthorised plundering expeditions, which caused damage to the wreck of the ship, the US Government made it illegal to retrieve any further items from the site and made it an internationally protected grave site.

Really nothing can be predicted and these are the things which suggest there is some super natural body governing this universe. May God rest the soul of all those who were the victims of this tragic movement rest in peace.
