Shintoism was never truly practiced outside of Japan and has been the dominant faith in Japan from 600 BCE to the present; it is not an evangelizing faith. During World War II, the Japanese Empire was the largest it has ever been in history, so there were Japanese Shintoists throughout Asia (e.g. the soldiers of the Empire of Japan), but this was not an expansion of Shintoism, simply a movement of Shinto believers.
