∙ 15y agoOn April 2, 1836, Charles John Huffam Dickens February 7, 1812-June 9, 1870] and Catherine ka Kate Thomson Hogarth [May 19, 1815-November 22, 1879] were married in St. Luke's Church, Chelsea, in southwest London, England. They honeymooned in Chalk, near Chatham, Kent. This was an area that the author favored, for having spent youthful years there. The couple had 10 children. The author felt considerable financial stress over such a large family, and criticized what he perceived as his wife's lack of skill in childraising and housekeeping. The couple separated in May 1858, and never reconciled. The author kept the house. With sister-in-law Georgina Thomson Hogarth [1827-1917] as housekeeper, he raised 9 of the children. Catherine had to move out, and eldest child Charles Culiford Boz Dickens [January 6, 1837-1896] left with her.
