Seattle, Washington.
In 1953, the first high-speed printer was developed by Remington-Rand for use on the Univac computer. In 1938, Chester Carlson invented a dry printing process called electrophotography commonly called a Xerox, the foundation technology for laser printers to come.
Photocopiers replaced several less-versatile machines, including the mimeograph, a nasty monster that used a typed template on a drum. Ink inside the drum flowed out through openings made by the typewriter, and onto paper as the drum rotated over it. Those of us who used them were very happy to see the first photocopiers, believe me.
