It originated in ierlan and they origanly used turnups and potatos and thing like that from this old misrable drunk named singy jack he was lazy and played pranks on everyone his friends, his family, his mom, and even the devil himself once he tricked the devil up a tree and the hurredly placed crosses all around the tree so the devil was stuck and he wouldn't move them until the devil promesed not 2 take his soul 2 hell the devil went with it. many years later when jack finally died he was turned down at heven and couldn't go to hell cuz of the promose so the devil gave him a hot ember and he put it in a carved out turnups and travled the darkness between heven and hell with his turnup so they call it the jack o lantern when the Irish immigrants came 2 America they found that it was eayser to carv jack o lanterns outta pupkins
