The summit of Mount McKinley in Alaska, U.S.A. is the coldest place in North America.

The coldest temperature in North America is often quoted as -63°C (-81°F) at Snag, Yukon, Canada on 2/3/1947. However, the United States Army Natick Laboratory left a thermometer at an elevation of about 15,000 feet (4,572 meters) on Mount McKinley, Alaska, U.S.A. from 1950 to 1969.

The coldest temperature recorded was -100°F (-73°C). This is not only the coldest temperature recorded in North America, but the coldest temperature recorded in the Northern Hemisphere, 10.1°F lower than the -67.7°C (-89.9°F) recorded at Oymyakon, Russia on 2/6/1933.

Had the thermometer been left at the 20,238 ft summit, it would have recorded even colder themperatures.
