An isolation valve on the hot side of the domestic water system should only be installed IF there is an expansion tank on the hot water system. This is because if both the inlet and outlet of the water heater are shut off with no expansion tank, the expansion caused by the heating and cooling of the water can cause the pipes to burst.
Usually there is only a shut off on the cold inlet side of the water heater. To isolate the hot side of the system you would shut off the cold inlet to the water heater and drain down the hot side. Note that if valves and seals are old and leaking, you will get cross over from the cold to the hot in some of the fixtures themselves, necessitating the need to shut off the cold and drain down the entire system.

Usually there is a shut off valve right above the water heater on the cold side. There can be one on the hot side to so that the heater can be removed without having to drain the system.
The isolation valve should (must) be placed on the cold water side (and/or the return side), entering the water heater. Placing the isolation valve on the hot or outlet side of the water heater has the potential of creating a bomb.
First house lighting systems are single phase not three phase. To connect a generator to the house lighting system for emergency power, it would take an electrician to do the job properly. The biggest concern would be to isolate the rest of the service from the main distribution supply service and then isolate the rest of the distribution panel loads from the lighting loads.
It is connected to the cut out fuse which enables isolation of the circuit from the supply when there is a fault.Additional Information:The service cable is usually connected to a meter fixture and from there to the main electric panel which will have a breaker to isolate the panel.
I believe that an isolator should only be used to isolate supplies that are not under load, while a switch fuse can isolate the supply that the fuse protects. A fused switch can isolate a three phase supply where a switch fuse might not in fault conditions. This is because three phase faults can occur with only one phase going down and larger currents occurring ?? ian malone.
Isolate it from the water supply then replace the defective valve
