All you have to do is wait until the gift is ready, if there is nothing wrong with your village. He gives the gift once every 24 hours since the last time in which you got one. If he's got an exclamation mark on top of him, it means the gift isn't ready yet.
Buy more stuff that gives you xp and money. The majority should be xp, though. I have 2000 smurf berries, but I din't actually buy them. Collect the xp so you can level up faster and gain more smurf berries. The items that give you money will give you more so you can buy more xp items!
