∙ 13y agoA motte and bailey castle was built away from attackers so it can not be destroyed. It has to be kept by a good supply of water (by a lake). By a nearby village so the peasants can be used by the owners. it also would ave to be close to a good supply of timber so when it is being made you don't have to travel far to make the castle and the fence.

∙ 11y agoNobody really permamently lived in a Motte and Bailey Castle as they were portable, as it was very easy to build. Some Motte and Bailey's were inhabited by farmers.
