Well. I will prefer intensive study for science fragment. We can't be ascertained of the sources from where the questions can be asked. However the scientific strata of Manorama year book and India year book is good enpugh to deal with. Especially focus should be given on class 10 science book of NCERT. The Hindu and frontline are also beneficial. In a nutshell try to brief whatever scientific articles published in various material including ministry of GOI's which u would like to prefer. Further information form ur part will b welcomed.

i think it is foolishness to take civil engg as optional in ias. how can u score well solving numerical problems of structural engg , som ,rcc, steel structure etc. paper 2 is ok but paper 1 is at high risk. but i think if u plan well ,u may be d first to clear it. nothing is impossible.
