There are many websites which will compare cameras for you. You should base your decision on what you want in a camera because others may be looking for different qualities in a camera. Look at price, types of lenses included, amount and type of memory, the body type, sensors, resolution, speed, autofocus options, if you want zoom, how to share your photos and videos, video capability, rechargeable or replaceable batteries, LCD screen size, if you want a touch screen, etc.
You can do camera comparisons on snapsort.com, dpreview.com, and staples.com.
I'd rather choose D5100
D5100
Though the best model for beginning photographers will depend specifically on the features desired and what it will be used for, some beginner-friendly models include the Canon EOS 1100D, the Nikon D3100, the Nikon D5100, the Canon 650D, and the Sony A37.
Oops, Freudian slip, (Should be Nikon D3100)Anyhow, The Artist is Radical Face and the song is Welcome Home, Son

D5100 it the Best...
Actually, it depends on your needs, of what you are going to shoot. If you are shooting concerts, you need a professional camera because it performs best in low light situation and DSLRs like Nikon D7000(Nikon's latest model) or Canon 7D is best for you. If you are going to play the role of a starter photographer, you might want to consider Nikon D3100(Nikon's upgrade to Nikon D3000) or Canon's EOS 1000D, these cameras are good enough for everyday shooting. If you have a little bit of extra money, I would suggest getting the Mid-range DSLRs like Nikon D5100/Nikon D90/Canon 550D/Canon 60D.
I was waiting "for something better to come out" when I bought the D5100 in June, 2011. Now, in November, they do have the new cameras with a prime lens. These are better, for some people. It all depends on how serious you are about photography and your best use. I use the D5100 for making professional photographs in a variety of settings: outdoor, studio, weddings, classroom. It is a great camera; just not the best one. Consider it a mid-range machine, but an excellent one. I know a professional photographer that uses his "best" cameras for photographs but uses the D5100 exclusively for taking video.
The Nikon D5100 is about as good as it gets for an SLR Camera. Your best bet for purchasing one though would be your closest Camera Store. That way a specialist can make sure you're getting the camera that suits your needs and the needed accessories.

There are consumer reports available for consumers wishing to purchase HD digital cameras online. One review site shows consumers which HD digital cameras score the highest with other consumers who have already purchased them. These are; Canon EOS 6OOD, Nikon D2300, Nikon D5100 and quite a few others. This information is obtainable from the ecompare website.
Yes, you can. Nikon uses Nikon F-mount to connect the lens to the camera. Sometimes other manufacturers change their mount, but Nikon never did, so you can still even use analog lenses.
