What is a new name of photography?

User Avatar
Photography's name as a medium of 2D images hasn't changed. Many of the processes have changed with technology. In some cases there are overlaps with other mediums in part due to the digital convergence. Traditionally photography uses chemical processes to fix an image from a projection of light. This was most commonly the film within a camera with the camera being a means to mount a lens to focus the light and through mechanical processes to make an exposure - the amount of light as a ratio of the aperture of the lens and the shutter determining the length of exposure to the light sensitive material (film). The third factor of the basic principals relates to the photo sensitivity of the film (now called ISO, previously called ASA). In more recent times the film has been replaced by a sensor which is also light sensitive when charged. The exposure is still controlled by a balance of aperture and exposure length. The image is briefly recorded by the sensor and the information is transferred as a file to a storage device such as a removable disk or card. Digital cameras range from those you may have in your cell phone to highly specialized devices like those on the rovers on Mars, but they all work fundamentally the same way. Many of the changes in the medium we call photography have to do with how the image is manipulated after the photo is captured. Using software like Photoshop and After Effects (both made by Adobe, but there are many similar programs made by a wide range of companies) the images can be completely changed, combined and output in 2D, 3D or as part of a motion process (animated). The flexibility this offers with wide and diverse options has lead some to question if it is still "photography" or perhaps should be called by another term. Early in digital photography the manipulation of digital files was sometimes referred to as "digital imaging". It can also be called "post production" as in after the image capture (production). You may opt to simply use "Digital Photography" to differentiate the capture process from traditional chemical based processes. New output options including high-end inkjet printers, distribution by the internet and video media allow images to be projected on building, printed on clothing and shared on your phone. I believe these all still have their basis in photography if the image or contributing elements were created by capturing light. What are camera aesthetics?

User Avatar
Camera aesthetics are the ability to pick up and move a camera through space before it was problematic to experience the changing in the world of the movie but now with the aesthetics of the camera you can see the movement of the world. Camera aesthetics often refers to the look and feel of the camera. This applies to all human interactive aspects of the camera. Does the camera fit in my hands; and is it easy to handle? Is the camera too heavy or too light? Are all the buttons in good places, or do I sometimes accidentally hit buttons because of poor placement? (Digital) If the camera has a screen, is the screen size good and is the display quality good? (Digital) Are the settings menus easy to navigate and understand? Even little things like: Do I like the feel of the texture on the camera? ...and "Do I like the color?" Everything about the user experience (look, feel, ease of use) make up the aesthetic of the camera.

Did Johann Heinrich Schulze invent the photography?

User Avatar
Johann H. Schultze 1684 - 1744 German - Preformed experiments that paved the way towards chemical based photography. It was known that certain chemicals darkened when exposed to sunlight. In 1727 Professor Schulzte heated silver nitrate. The compound did not darken so heat was eliminated as a cause of blackening. Schultze mixed silver nitrate with chalk and using the chalk like a pencil applied this compound to paper using a stencil. When exposed to sunlight the coated paper darkened. In invention of photography is credited to Nicephore Niece 1765 - 1833 France - who made the first permanent picture, a view from his window using a camera of his design. This first picture was taken in 1827. The picture is currently at Gernsheim Collection, University of Texas at Austin.

What is shutter life dependency?

User Avatar
Shutter Life Dependency is actually a derivative of the Shutter Life Cycle touted by most manufacturers as it relates to the structural integrity and tested life cycle of the shutters used in their cameras. You mayhear of a shutter being tested to 150,000 cycles or perhaps even 250,000 cycles. This is an indication of the cameras durability and expected longevity.

What is a good photography store name?

User Avatar
My photography studio's name is Blue Water Studio. But I think using something natural or catchy like "snap shot studio" would be cool. It helps people remember who you are and get a relaxed feeling! A lot of people don't like their photos taken so if you have something in your name that makes them feel relaxed they may choose you! Think about what it is you do best, or what you wish to convey. Obviously, if your speciality will be animals, it would be best not to suggest that you specialize in weddings. "Snap Shots" might be a catchy name for the market you seek, but some would regard this as too informal. A ten year old can MAKE a snap shot. A professional wedding photographer CREATES a moment in time, thus would need a more suitable name. Or is this a retail store selling cameras and such? There is something to be said for using your last name in the business name in that it usually makes it easier to register.

What is emphasis in photography?

User Avatar
The photographer can show emphasis through framing choice, whether he uses a vertical or horizontal format. Or he might show emphasis by the placement of the subject, governed by the rule of thirds. Or he might use selective focus to simplify the background. Or by drawing the viewers attention to a certain spot within the frame using perspective. Emphasis in photography is highlighting some aspect of a scene or subject. To emphasize the height of a basketball player, the photographer may sit on the ground and shoot upward toward the subject. To emphasize a mood, different color lighting may be used. Altering perspective, framing and lighting are just a few of the ways emphasis may be applied.

Can you convert a 35mm camera to digital?

User Avatar
Oh yes, it is possible, and has been done for a number of medium and large-format cameras. A digital camera back may be used in place of the film holder. However, it may be slightly impractical for 35 mm cameras, due to the stellar costs involved. I have seen digital backs for Leica 35 mm models, as well as a few home-made backs for Canon and Nikon cameras. Whether a commercial version is available depends on the actual camera in mind. - - - - - It really wouldn't be worth it except for some really expensive cameras like Leica Rs or Nikon F6s. By the time you got the thing working, you'd have more money invested than a factory-made digital camera costs. Converting a medium-format or large-format camera is a different story. A medium format camera uses interchangeable backs so all you need do is remove your film back and put a digital back on. But the cost! If you wanted to put the least expensive Mamiya digital back on your Mamiya 645, it would cost you about $8000. If you have an RB67, the news is even worse: before you can put the multi-thousand-dollar back on your camera, you need to spend $600 for the piece that goes between back and body, which is called a lock. (An RZ67 lock is almost a thousand dollars.)

What does CA stand for in photography?

User Avatar
CA stands for chromatic aberration. Chromatic aberration happens in the lens. The different wavelengths (colors) of light get spread out, sort of like a prism creating a rainbow. CA is usually visible as a thin green line on one side of a subject and a thin magenta (red-purple) line on the other side. CA also tends to reduce the overall sharpness of an image.

Can you paint over a photograph?

User Avatar
Acrylic would be a poor choice for painting over a photo if you want to maintain its integrity, because acrylics are opaque. Also, the paint may damage the photo. You can buy special oil paints for hand-coloring photographs. (Neither acrylics nor oil paints are inherently opaque nor tranparent. The pigments used for either-or for watercolors- are identical. Only the binder is different and both the oils and polymer emulsions used in the production of acrylic paint are transparent. What makes a PARTICULAR color opaque is the opaqueness of the pigment. So, Yellow Ochre (oil or acrylic) is more opaque than is Acra Violet/Alizarin Crimson.) Tinting photos is an old and formerly popular techinique. You wouldn't be re-inventing the wheel, so finding the right tools/media shouldn't be hard. The only snag might be that "photos" printed from your computers and not through traditional photoprinting methods, run a variety of chemical recipes of dyes and inks. - - - - - A special note for people who want to hand-color inkjet photos rather than silver halide photos, and there are quite a few who do: Paint of any kind will soak through inkjet ink and mess up the photograph. Before handcoloring an inkjet, you coat it with a clear artist's gesso. This seals the ink. Liquitex makes what you need.

What is matrix or zone metering in photography?

User Avatar
Metering that mixes the results of several points around the central area of the focusing screen and presents one value that represents an aperture/shutter combination to use. To say these points are averaged would not usually be correct because different areas influence the result more than others. This is known as weighting, as in "central averaging, bottom weighted" in one system. Different manufacturers have different approaches to the problem of metering.

What does CF stand for in photography?

User Avatar
CF stands for Compact Flash. Compact Flash cards are approximately 1.25x2.5" in size, and are used as a kind of digital film. The images from the digital camera are recorded on the CF card, which can then be placed inside a CF card reader, connected to a computer, to view and download the images. Most, if not all, professional-grade DSLR camera bodies use CF cards, as they have high capacities (currently upwards of 32GB) and are extremely durable. Many consumer-grade cameras use SD, XD or Memory Stick cards, rather than CF cards.
