Well, they both have their ups and downs. In this day and age, digital is the way to go. There are no tapes to worry about, no rewinding, no skipping etc. People still do use film just because this is what they are comfortable with. But digital if faster and easier to use. (most people choose digital over film these days.) But it up to you really. Filmmaking is the original way of doing things but digital is the newer advanced way of doing things.
Consider what kind of work you are going to do. If you shoot exclusively for publication digital is better because that's what the magazines want. If you shoot portraits you can go either way--unless you're a school photographer who photographs 250 children per day, and that's all digital now. If you specialize in night work or multiple exposure Photography you cannot use digital, but film is no problem.

Digital filmmaking versus Conventioanl filmmaking has become a heated debate ever since the former became popular in the '90s. Digital filmmaking has proven however to be the more effective, durable, high quality and efficient method, and this is proven by the shift of many filmmakers from traditional filmmaking. Digital filmmaking pertains to the use of digital captures in making movies, as opposed to traditional filmmaking which uses film. Digital captures may be stored on media such as flash memory, hard disks, and tape. Many Hollywood movies are now being shot either fully or partly digital. Film distributors are often at a disadvantage when determining the number of prints for a movie they are distributing. For example, making a few prints can mean the possibility that there would be not enough screens for showing the movie which is in demand. On the other hand, printing too many film prints can be wasteful especially for movies which are not exactly blockbusters.
Both journalism and documentary filmmaking deal in non-fiction storytelling.
For filmmaking, degrees mean little. Experience is more important. You'll find the most successful filmmakers rarely went to school for it.

No. It's like asking if a claw hammer or ball peen hammer is "better". It depends on what you're doing, and the quality of the equipment and the main thing is how skillful the person is!
