For heavy traffic and regular cleaning linoleum holds up better because it is thicker, but tends to peel up at edges. It is also hard to intall-like carpet. The other is less durable but much cheaper and an easy self install, but will require occasional repair. It is thinner and IMO looks better, but getting hard to find nowadays

which is better tile, vinyl or linoleum?

The main difference between vinyl and linoleum is that linoleum is made from natural products while vinyl is purely synthetic. The color of Linoleum is throughout the material, while the color is just printed on the surface of vinyl so can wear out in areas of heavy traffic.

Does vinyl flooring come in sheets?

Vinyl and linoleum are not the same. Vinyl is an artificial product. Linoleum is natural. One of the biggest differences is that linoleum is much more durable. The pattern for linoleum goes all the way through so it lasts longer. The pattern for vinyl is printed on the top so once it wears off, your floor looks old. Most flooring sheets these days are vinyl sheets.

Do you have to remove old linoleum before putting down new vinyl tiles?

What is under the linoleum? If it is stuck down well, you can put new tiles on there once. However, if you get to "the bottom of things," you may be able to fill in any dips in the floor and correct any other issues that will make your vinyl tiles look even better. It will take elbow grease and a crowbar and some major adhesive remover to take off the linoleum, but it can be done. If you choose to tile over the linoleum, make sure it is super clean and free of any grease.

Can you put sticky floor tile on linoleum?

yes, but real linoleum is treated periodically with oil to maintain elasticity and must be cleaned with degreases. most modern floors are vinyl and can be cleaned easier. Follow the directions for installing the tile.

Can new linoleum be installed over old linoleum?

Yes as long as the vinyl is in good condition without any cracks, tears, or bubbles. You will need to make sure the old is only one layer. The floor will need to be stripped and embossed so any pattern will not telegraph through to your new floor.
