A C-5 is better! Lets' break it down so people can understand the difference between the two aircraft. It's like comparing a semi-truck (C-5) to a Toyota Prius (C-17). Would you rather have a back-hoe (C-5) to dig a hole or 10 small kids that go to a private school (C-17)? To put in terms of freedom, a C-5 can hold 3 tanks or 6 Apache helicopters compared to a C-17 which holds ONE tank or 2 Apache helicopters. Yes, the C-5 does require a lot of TLC but just like any classic car the TLC is worth it. The people that say a C-17 is better don't like to put in the work or get their hands dirty. C-17 mechanics are the type that take their car in to get an oil change instead of doing it themselves. As long as you can restart a home computer you are qualified to work on the C-17.
