Which music genre is easier for you to get into the music industry?

I don't really think genre plays a big part in getting into the industry. Genres less popular will have the least competition, but will also have the least potential because no one cares about it. Take polka for example. It may be easy to make yourself the best polka player in the world, but you aren't going to sell a lot of records. In an industry like rap, there is a lot of competition, but if you can be the best there is a lot of money in it. To get in the industry you need talent no matter what genre. If you are looking for the easiest way to get into the industry you probably don't have what it takes to make it. People want to listen to music with heart. Your heart can't be in it if you are just doing whatever you think will make money.

It depends what area of the industry you're looking to get into and what your salary expectations are.

In increasing order of difficulty, I'd rate various areas like this:

- freelance musician

- stage hand / technician

- sound engineer / lighting technician

- stage manager

- business manager

- backing musician for well-known performer

- AR Person for major label

- song writer

- Rock Star!!

- Major label owner / CEO

As you can see, there are a lot of areas of music you could get into. A lot of aspiring performers want to aim for 'Rock Star' right off the top - thereby choosing one of the most difficult things to be. After a few years, even the most talented performers can become frustrated and many end up quitting the business altogether. This is unfortunate as there are many other areas where musical talent and a good personality would serve them extremely well without all the pressure and artifice of the 'Rock Star' life.
