The Battle of Midway, 4-7 June 1942, is considered the turning point of the Pacific War. The Japanese actually lost four carriers, the remnants of the Kido Butai task force which struck Pearl Harbour. The carriers were the Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu, and Soryu. The battle, intended to be a trap for the U.S. carrier fleet, was a decisive victory for the U.S. navy and severely damaged Japan's ability to wage an offensive naval war.
