If we're talking layers of the earth, that would be the upper mantle, below the crust.
You would have to ask those "different scientists"
Extreme environments have been useful to scientists in inventing PCR. It was in an extreme environment like the geysers of Yellowstone that a scientist discovered that a bacteria was living in the extremely hot water and yet still could function. Before PCR we knew we could separate a strand of DNA by heating it, but there was no polymerase to duplicate it that would work at such a high temperature. The bacteria in the hot water had a polymerase that would. So now scientists use that to do PCR and create many copies of DNA.
Since glass was invented, the scientists were able to create the microscope. If this was never invented, the scientists would never have been able to discover cells.

The egg is like a model of the layers of the Earth. (see layers of the ... The egg shell will represent the thin outer layer of the Earth called the crust.
If the earth didn't had 4 layer, no life would be there. There would be extinction.
I believe this would be the oceanic crust
what type of scientists is interested in the rate of photosynthesis in leaves
Deep canyons are formed when rivers erode many layers of rock. The pattern of rocky layers, as well as the layers themselves, have a lot of information for geologists about how the layers were formed, atmospheric conditions, disruptions, volcanic eruptions, major fires and so on. It would be difficult or impossible to expose so much of this over such a great distance.

how old they are how long the layers formed what kind of rocks
Hologams to represent the Earth would be too expensive.
