Best Answer

Passive 3D televisions are normally 1080 line.

However, the image is split into left and right images so the effective resolution becomes half the full HD resolution, namely 540 line.

So although they can claim to be full HD, they have a total of 1080 lines, the viewer sees only half the full resolution.

What are the things I must know about 3D TV when planning to buy one?

First, you have to understand that there are two types of 3D technologies, active and passive. Active 3D TVs are like Panasonic, Sony, or Samsung's 3D TV. Passive ones are like Vizio or LG 3D TVs. Active 3D retains full HD resolution whereas passive cuts the effective resolution down to only 540 lines. However, passive is a cheap system compared to the premium brands.

What are the benefits of passive 3D TV can you recommend a good passive 3D TV?

Passive 3D uses polarizing glasses to direct alternate lines to each eye. The process avoid the use of alternate frames being directed to each eye as is done with active 3D. Passive 3D reduces the effective resolution to only 540 lines instead of 1080 lines of full HD. Compare this with standard definition line counts of 480 and 576 lines. Active technology reduces the effective frame rate of 1080p to 25 or 30 frames per second (actually, the same as 1080i frame rates). As for a recommendation, there is no substitute to seeing the models and making your own decision. Make sure the picture is clear and the glasses are comfortable.

Will the active 3D glasses work with passive 3D tv We have an LG passive 3D TV and we need extra ones My friend has an active 3D TV though so I was wondering if I can just borrow his glasses.?

Active 3d glasses will not work with passive 3d TV. Active glasses use shutter 3D technology that requires a power source to power the lenses in the glasses. Passive glasses don't have electronics or batteries. Hence, they are lighter and more comfortable. Active and passive TV work using completely different technology and thus active glasses cannot work on passive TV.

Which 3D LED TV has the cheapest glasses?

What is a comfortable 3D TV that's also a full HD 3D TV?

There are two type of 3D television currently available. LG uses a passive type while most other manufacturers use an active type. Full HD resolution is only obtained by active models as the passive types split the 1080 lines between the eyes with an effective resolution of only 540 lines. So, for full HD in 3D, you need to be looking for active types.

What is the difference between active and passive 3D TVs and which one is Cinema 3D TV?

The main difference between active and passive 3D TVs is that active 3D TVs use shutter system and passive 3D TVs don't. Shutter system inserts a black frame after each image frame and the result is when your right eye is seeing an image, your left eye sees a black frame. Each side of the glasses take turn to project the image and the black frame i.e. the glasses. This causes flickering images and crosstalks. Passive 3D TVs, however, let your eyes see the 3D images as you naturally see other things. There are no black frames after each image frame. This allows the passive 3D TVs to be flicker free and crosstalk free. Cinema 3D TVs are passive 3D TVs. Passive TVs project images with more vibrant colors and of higher quality.

Will passive 3D TV survive and continue in todays trend?

Technology in 3D TV has improved much more lately. The upcoming technology is 3D TV without glasses, but it will probably be insanely priced. I think passive 3D TV, as it is called, is the next generation 3D TV, and it may actually be the best 3D TV technology right now. I suggest you gain more information about passive 3D TV if you doubt the quality. You can also take active 3D TV as a comparison.
