I am not 100% sure, but out of everyday saddles, Western Saddles were designed for farm work, which at some points covers a lot of land with different terrains and year round.
Although Western saddles can be nice it is the Australian Saddle.

They are used for riding things like horses and cattle. They are used to easily keep people on the horse they are riding on. They were designed for security and comfort in the saddle no matter how harsh the condition.
All though the Western saddle is comfortable it is not the correct answer. An endurance saddle would be a better answer. They have many features that lend themselves to maintaining comfort in any condition. After all, they are called 'endurance' so you (and they) can endure more.
As far as comfort and security go for the trail - I would definitely recommend Tucker Saddles. Can you be a bit more specific about harsh conditions? Do you mean a lot of hours spent on the trail or do you mean something else like for breaking out young horses or riding in rain/snow, etc. If weather is an issue I would recommend a synthetic saddle from Wintec or Fabtron.
No matter the pay... no matter the conditions... no matter the type of work... the NUMBER ONE most important thing is: is it YOUR job! (job security)

"There are a number of Comfort Inns in Vermont. As a matter of fact, St. Johnsbury, Rutland, and White River Junction all have a Comfort Inn. The latter is near Woodstock and Quechee State Park."
No matter how small you may feel inside, God will always forgive you and comfort you.
It doesn't really matter. It depends upon one's comfort.
