Concrete is stronger than cement. It is composed of aggregates (sand and gravel) and cement; and may be cast with reinforcing bar within it (reinforced concrete). Cement is only a part of concrete. Cement has no tensile strength while concrete has compressive and tensile strength.

Depends on the product or structure you are pouring. Usually highest strength concrete will have a low water to cement ratio and 8 -10% silica fume.

What is stronger concrete or Mortar?

Concrete is stronger than mortar.Because mortar is a mixture of cement, sand and water but concrete is a mixture of cement, sand, gravel and water. Thus concrete forms a stiff mix than mortar.Hence the concrete is more stronger than cement.

What is more stronger pure cement or cement mix with sand?

The sand and stone adds a binding quality to the cement making the concrete or plaster stronger than pure cement.

Why is concrete stronger then mortar?

Concrete is stronger than mortar because mortar is a mixture of cement, sand and water but concrete is a mixture of cement, sand, gravel and water. Thus concrete forms a stiff mix than mortar.

What substance slows down the setting of cement?

Gypsum slows down the setting of cement. Although the terms cement and concrete often are used interchangeably, cement is actually an ingredient of concrete. Concrete is basically a mixture of aggregates and paste. The aggregates are sand and gravel or crushed stone; the paste is water and portland cement. Concrete gets stronger as it gets older. Portland cement is not a brand name, but the generic term for the type of cement used in virtually all concrete, just as stainless is a type of steel and sterling a type of silver. Cement comprises from 10 to 15 percent of the concrete mix, by volume. Through a process called hydration, the cement and water harden and bind the aggregates into a rocklike mass. This hardening process continues for years meaning that concrete gets stronger as it gets older. So, there is no such thing as a cement sidewalk, or a cement mixer; the proper terms are concrete sidewalk and concrete mixer.

Is concrete a metal nonmetal or metalloid?

No. Concrete is a mixture of cement and other elements. Reinforced concrete often includes iron or steel beams in it to make it stronger.

What stronger brick or cement?

http://simscience.org/cracks/advanced/concrete2.html A common mistake people make is to use the words cement and concrete interchangably. It is important to remember that cement is only a component of concrete and concrete is the structural material. The cement used in concrete is not used as a building material because it would be too expensive and not as strong as concrete. So when you see a parking garage, a driveway, a sidewalk or a road remember it is made of concrete, not cement. And, by the way, that funny looking truck is a concrete mixer, not a cement mixer! But, if cement is not concrete, then what is it? Cement is a general name for a material that binds other materials together. Yes, it is another name for glue. There are many materials which we would classify as cements and they are usually identified with certain uses, and can produce different types of "concrete". The type of cement used to make the riding surface of some of our roads (blacktop!) is called asphalt cement. It is a petroleum bi-product, and it binds rock into the road material we call asphaltic concrete.

What is cement concrete?

Concrete actually contains cement as well as sand and gravel. We say "cement concrete" because cement is an ingredient in concrete. And because the cement is what binds together the sand and gravel that make up the concrete.

How is concrete made from cement?

Concrete is to bread as cement is to flour. Concrete is a mixture of sand, gravel, cement, and water.

What are the major ingredients for concrete and what role do they play?

cement- reacts with water to form "glue" water- reacts with cement, the amount also determines strength aggregate- makes concrete stronger, more durable, and less costly

Mixture to make concrete hollow blocks stronger?

1:4 to 1:6 ratio of cement and sand.

How is cement used in concrete?

Cement, sand and stone is what concrete is made of. Cement is the binding agent.

What consideration affects the type of aggregate used in concrete construction?

Ordinary structural concrete is characterized by its water-to-cement ratio. The lower the water content, all else being equal, the stronger the concrete
